New Jersey DUI, Homicide Charges in Easton Motorcycle Accident

A man facing DWI charges in Easton, New Jersey has also been charged with homicide by prosecutors in connection with a June 9 double fatal motorcycle accident on Route 611 in Easton. According to a news article in The Morning Call, James M. Black of Lopatcong Township was driving with a blood alcohol level twice the legal limit, which is .08 in the state of New Jersey.

Black faces a lengthy prison sentence if convicted of the charges. He allegedly struck a motorcycle with his pickup truck killing 45-year-old Patrick Petti and his fiancée, Barbara Warren, 48. Prosecutors also allege that Black had tried to drive away from the accident scene, but stopped when he was flagged down by a pedestrian. Police have also charged Black with homicide by vehicle while driving drunk, homicide by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter and other offenses.

Driving drunk is in itself a serious offense in the state of New Jersey. But its seriousness multiplies tremendously when there are major injuries or deaths involved.
