There is a wide range of penalties for possession of cocaine depending on the weight of the drugs involved and whether or not officials believe the suspect had intent to distribute them. Anyone facing cocaine possession charges would be well advised to immediately contact an experienced drug crime defense attorney to discuss their case before speaking with the authorities.

A skilled criminal defense attorney will ask a number of important questions. Were the drugs obtained through an illegal search and seizure? What cause did the arresting officer have for the traffic stop? Was the suspect aware that the drugs were in the vehicle? Was the defendant properly made aware of his or her Miranda rights?
